We believe that the Recreation Department is responsible for providing a comfortable, secure, personally satisfying environment for each individual resident keeping in mind the concept of normalization.
We believe in providing a high quality of life for all our residents. This is accomplished through a multidisciplinary approach to planning, implementing and evaluating the recreation programs.
Programs shall meet the physical, emotional, social, education, psychological and spiritual needs of each resident. We shall encourage and actively support individuality and independence thereby giving our residents a sense of belonging and control over their own environment.
We believe that all residents have a right to provide input into the planning of recreational programs through the Resident council or directly with the recreation staff.
Along with our daily recreational activities, outings and special events we also offer evening and weekend programming to best suit the residents needs.

Richmond Terrace Chapel
At Richmond Terrace our Chapel is located on the 1st Floor. Nine different denominations come into our Chapel each month to provide spiritual encouragement and fulfillment to our residents. Please see the monthly recreation calendar for the dates for each service as well as the time.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service is held the last Monday of each month, this is a time for the residents and families to remember their loved ones that have gone on to meet their reward the month before.
The last Monday of November is our Annual Memorial Service. It is a special time set aside to memorialize all the residents who have passed away during the previous 12 months. We create a memorial plaque to hang on our wall. As well we decorate a memorial tree with all our loved ones names to be displayed during the Christmas season.
Richmond Terrace is committed to:
- Provide for the spiritual need of every resident through a variety of religious programs, counselling and one on one visits
- Assess each resident’s spiritual needs upon admission, during times of illness or grieving and throughout the death and dying process
- Provide memorial services to assist residents, families and staff through grieving process
- Provide spiritual counselling for every resident, family member or staff as required or requested
We have a Chaplain on staff to administrate our spiritual programs, provide counselling, bible studies, hymn signs and memorial services for our residents and their families.
The Residents’ Council of Richmond Terrace functions to provide an active voice for those residents living in the facility. Residents’ Council consists of a group of residents who meet monthly to provide residents with a voice to express concerns, exchange information, audit programs and express opinions to the Administration of the home.
Residents’ Council is involved in fundraising programs to raise money to purchase items for the home and to attend outings, etc. throughout the year (e.g. raffles, vending proceeds).
Residents’ Council meetings are held monthly and all residents are encouraged to participate.
